These Marketing Oversights Are Dangerous. Are You Forgetting Them?

by | Nov 19, 2019 | Marketing Advice

Not realizing these marketing oversights can have some serious consequences like lost money, lost time, and lost opportunity.

When you first launch a business, you’re filled with hope and excitement and desire. You’re finally doing what you love to do with no boss scrounging your creativity or no time commitments that don’t align with your family or lifestyle!

Most of us begin a business with FREEDOM in mind! And, even when all of the pieces of the puzzle are seemingly in place like a business plan, accountant, lawyer, registration, website, social profiles, etc. there might be some big pieces that don’t get as much attention as they should.

Marketing means so much more than posting to social media, writing blog content, and shaking hands with potential clients. It’s also a lot more than pretty pictures, your brand colours, and website design.

Marketing is a part of the business journey that needs some in-depth exploring in order to be super successful.

Your marketing is the voice that speaks to your customers and clients first. It’s what turns their heads and makes them nod in agreement before they buy from you.

Marketing isn’t entertainment.

And marketing isn’t your portfolio.

What marketing is is the invitation for people to learn more about you.
It’s what introduces you to them and what inspires them to want to know more about you. Marketing is also what helps make your audience feel like they’re a part of something important and want to spread the word!

Marketing done right piques interest while educating people on the reason why they want your product or service, not just the product or service by itself.

What so many businesses miss in their marketing is what can kill their success. Or, at the very least, the impact they can truly have in their communities.

What are these oversights?

Not Having a Niche. You aren’t everything to everyone so don’t burn yourself out trying to be!

Ignoring or Not Realizing Your Impact. You have a deeper impact on what it is you do than simply “interior design” or “graphic design” or “photography” or “hairstyling”. You create change in the lives of your clients. So, what is it? How do you transform the lives of your clients and audience?

Forgetting Your Unique Value. What is it about your process, or the way you communicate, or your results that are different from other businesses in your industry?

I had a yoga teacher who would pass around notes to all of us at the beginning of each class. She had us make a declaration to ourselves which felt so empowering and also fun! Sometimes, she would have us practice our headstands with each other which allowed us to get to know other students and reach some goals we never knew we had LOL I have yet to find a more in tune and fun yoga instructor since. So, how about you? What’s your unique value?

Not Growing Your List. The algorithm on your favourite social channel can change tomorrow and all of the people you’ve been in contact with might not know you’re trying to talk to them! That’s why it’s important to form connections outside of these online platforms. Grow your list and you’ll know how to connect with your entire audience whenever you want and need to – minus the worry of conforming to a new rule coded into Instagram or Facebook’s timeline.

Setting and Forgetting Your Marketing. As your business evolves and grows so should your marketing and communication. The way you spoke to your audience, in the beginning, will be different once you begin taking on more projects and clients. You’re learning and growing so you need to reflect that in the way you share and communicate your business.
